May River Golf Course is an 18 hole private membership/resort facility located within Palmetto Bluff. The Jack Nicklaus signature design has Champion Bermuda greens and Sea Isle 1 Paspalum turf grass. In 2017 Jack Nicklaus oversaw a restoration of the course and installation of Better Billy Bunkers. Capital enhancements are ongoing, including a recently completed 13,000 linear feet of additional drainage. In 2019 a fairway topdressing program was implemented. In 2020 two John Deere GPS precision sprayers were added to the fleet. Palmetto Bluff is currently constructing a King/Collins designed reversible 9-hole course scheduled to open in the 4th quarter of 2023 and is also in the planning stages for a 18-Hole Coore/Crenshaw design to open in 2026.

Senior Assistant Superintendent
Wilson Country Club, Wilson, NC
Salary Range: $45,000 - $52,000
Wilson Country Club is now hiring for a head assistant superintendent position. We are located about 45 minutes east of Raleigh, North Carolina. The clubs property is over 140 acres with approximately 120 acres of maintained turf, 3 acres of which are the A-1/A-4 bentgrass greens. The tees, fairways and rough are all 419 Bermuda grass. The remaining 20 acres are wooded areas that are maintained as well.
The maintenance staff is also responsible for maintaining the entrances to the development and the clubhouse as well as the landscaping surrounding the clubhouse, pool and tennis court area. Qualified applicants will have a minimum of 2 years of experience at one facility with extensive knowledge of chemical and fertilizer applications, hand watering bentgrass greens, irrigation repairs and trouble shooting, as well as landscape maintenance. Must be an assertive leader with the ability to manage and lead staff while performing their duties. An eye for detail and being self-motivated are also desirable traits. This will be a good position for someone looking to have more of a leadership position with a desire to be in the business of golf course maintenance as a long-term career.
Starting pay will be between $45,000 and $52,000 commensurate with experience. Health insurance is available after 90 days with the club paying the better portion of that. Dental insurance is also available at a discounted rate as well. Paid sick leave accrues after 90 days. A prorated amount of vacation is awarded on the 1 year anniversary date to be proportionate to 1 week per year and a full week granted at on January 1st. Two weeks after 2 years and 3 weeks after 10 years.

Cherokee is one of the most exclusive sporting plantations in the world. The course was designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1999. In 2000, Cherokee hosted a Shell’s Wonderful of Golf with David Duvall and Ernie Els. During the summer of 2021, the course underwent an extensive renovation. The renovation included a new Toro Lynx irrigation system, XGD drainage, sand capping the fairways, tees, and approaches, and new grass installed. The fairways were converted to Zorro Zoysia. The tees and approaches were converted to Prizm Zoysia. Future summer projects will include more XGD drainage, tee and bunker additions, and more renovations already underway.
The successful applicant will be a self-motivated individual demonstrating strong communication skills as necessary to support the Superintendent with all aspects of personnel management. Duties will also include the application of pesticides in a precise, accurate, and timely manner. Inventory will be maintained in an organized manner, including the handling and disposal of those pesticides. Safe operation and calibration of equipment are essential. The applicant should possess a thorough understanding of the daily requirements of golf course operations, golfers' expectations, and playing conditions while being dedicated to continuous improvement of the course. The qualified applicant will have a minimum of a two-year degree in Turf Management (or related field) with experience in golf course maintenance. A South Carolina Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to acquire one) and a valid S.C. driver's license with clear record are also required.

SUMMARY:
Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent collaborates with Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Golf Courses with the planning, coordination, and execution of the golf course maintenance program. Supervises all staff when the Assistant Superintendent and/or Superintendent of Golf Courses or designee is absent and stands in on their behalf as required for various meetings and golf course maintenance agenda including weekly staff meetings. Directs crews during construction and special projects. Performs all routine golf course maintenance operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Directs seasonal crew to execute golf course maintenance plan including daily tasks and special projects. Aids in the training and orientation of new staff members.
• Manages personnel to accomplish operational goals and helps employees to develop good equipment operation skills and work habits.
• Acts as lead worker and supervisor on special projects and construction.
• Applies fertilizers and pesticides to golf course turf and licensing requirements.
• Operates all equipment necessary for golf course maintenance and construction including, but not limited to, tractors, skid steer loaders, backhoes, mowers, transit/level and hand tools.
• Inspects golf course presentation daily to ensure optimum playing conditions.
• Critiques operations such as mowing, bunker raking and cup cutting to make sure they are completed according to set maintenance standards.
• Provides support for irrigation operations including central computer operation, remote operation and hand watering.
• Responsible for upkeep of golf course pump houses, restrooms, and shelters, not including clubhouse and associated structures.

• High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree in turf grass management or related field preferred.
Experience Requirements

Second Assistant Superintendent
Rocky River Golf Club, Concord, NC
Salary: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour (DOE)

Rocky River Golf Club is an 18 hole public golf course located in Concord less than a mile from Charlotte Motor Speedway. It is owned by the city of Concord and managed by Atrium Hospitality in coordination with Embassy Suites Hotel. It has mini-verde bermudagrass greens and does over 40,000 rounds of golf each year. We also host and take care of the UNCC men’s and women’s practice facilities.
Qualifications for the Assistant Superintendent are a 2 or 4 year turf degree and a minimum of 3 years of golf course experience. The Assistant should be able to train and motivate crew and be a leader by example and through positive reinforcement. A NC pesticide license or the ability to obtain one is required within first 6 months of hire. The assistant will be in charge of fertilizer and pesticide applications and must keep good and accurate records. Knowledge of ultradwarf bermudagrass a plus but not a necessity.
The candidate must also be able to lift at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis. The golf course has a Toro irrigation system so knowing how to run OSMAC satellites and Lynx software is also a plus. The assistant will also need to know how to fix irrigation wires and leaks. Lastly, the assistant will also work closely with the superintendent to come up with ideas and solutions to make the golf course better. This is a great opportunity for an up and coming qualified staff member at a golf course or a student who has recently graduated or is about to graduate.

We are currently looking to fill a Second Assistant Superintendent positions within The Daniel Island Family of Golf Course Maintenance. The Second Assistant Superintendent is expected to interact with members throughout the day; always carry him or herself in a professional manor representing The Daniel Island Club. Willingness to learn, provide a “TEAM” oriented environment and progressing the continued traditions of the The Daniel Island Club. Daniel Island Club consists of two golf courses, Beresford Creek (Tom Fazio Design) and Ralston Creek (Rees Jones Design). Beresford Creek completed an extensive renovation to include bunkers (capillary concrete) and conversion of all tees, fairways, and approaches to Latitude 36 Bermudagrass in 2018. Currently we are planning to renovate the Beresford Creek putting surfaces in 2022. Ralston Creek completed an extensive renovation in 2019 to include bunkers (capillary concrete), conversion of tees, fairways and approaches to Latitude 36 and greens renovation (TifEagle). Currently we are also planning to renovate the Ralston Creek putting surfaces in 2023. The renovations of both courses will provide an opportunity to obtain extensive knowledge with regards to a state-of-the-art drainage system installed within both courses. This is the next step towards evolving The Daniel Island Club into one of the premier golf experiences in the Southeast. The Practice Facilities consist of ten acres of maintained turf to include front and back practice tees and short game area.
The Second Assistant Superintendent will be exposed to several components of succession with respect to professional development:
• New technologies regarding golf course maintenance (computer software systems, mechanical applications, etc.)
• Budgeting and organizational applications (excel, power point, publisher, etc.)

• Career advancement to include mock interviews, resume development, etc.
Duties:
Assists in the day-to-day operation of the golf course. The Second Assistant Superintendent should be able to assist in the management and acclimation of a large crew of full time, part time, and seasonal employees.
