Cherokee is one of the most exclusive sporting plantations in the world. The Plantation sits on 7,000 acres located in the Low Country of SC between Charleston and Beaufort. Cherokee offers Golf, Hunting, and Equestrianism to our 22 members and their guests. The course was designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1999. In 2000, Cherokee hosted a Shell’s Wonderful of Golf with David Duvall and Ernie Els. During the summer of 2021, the course underwent an extensive renovation. The renovation included a new Toro Lynx irrigation system, XGD drainage, sand capping the fairways, tees, and approaches, and new grass installed. The fairways were converted to Zorro Zoysia. The tees and approaches were converted to Prizm Zoysia. Future summer projects will include more XGD drainage, tee and bunker additions, and more renovations already underway.

The successful applicant will be a self-motivated individual demonstrating strong communication skills as necessary to support the Superintendent with all aspects of personnel management. Duties will also include the application of pesticides in a precise, accurate, and timely manner. Inventory will be maintained in an organized manner, including the handling and disposal of those pesticides. Safe operation and calibration of equipment are essential. The applicant should possess a thorough understanding of the daily requirements of golf course operations, golfers' expectations, and playing conditions while being dedicated to continuous improvement of the course. The qualified applicant will have a minimum of a two-year degree in Turf Management (or related field) with experience in golf course maintenance. Assistant Golf Course Superintendent responsible for assisting the Superintendent in the operating functions of the Golf Course Maintenance Department.

• Prior course maintenance and irrigation experience is a plus. Must have at least 1 year of general irrigation experience.
• Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers, and working knowledge of various types of pumps and pumping systems.
