Turf Equipment Technician Overview: 

The equipment technician reports to the golf course superintendent and/or the assistant golf course superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for the golf course assets. This program includes the diagnostics and repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The equipment technician properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the superintendent and/or the assistant superintendent. The equipment technician places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment, including, diesel-, electric- and gasoline-powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work
  • Instructs and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment
  • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work
  • Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies
  • Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment
  • Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use
  • Oversees the shop area maintenance
  • Regulates employees' use of equipment in absence of superintendent and assistant superintendent, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the superintendent
  • Recommends equipment purchases and leases.

Employment standards:

  • Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses
  • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair
  • Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession

Senior Assistant Equipment Technician

Working with the Director of Golf Courses & Grounds & Equipment Manager, we are excited to welcome a Senior Assistant Equipment Technician for our South Course, which is currently under construction. Apogee Club is a passion project presented by two highly successful businessmen, Mr. Michael Pascussi & Mr. Stephen Ross. Apogee is currently in the construction phase with plans to construct three, 18-hole golf courses, two short courses, a Himalayas-style putting green & two driving ranges over 1200 acres. The West Course, designed by Gil Hanse & Jim Wagner has just recently opened & construction of the 50+ acre driving range & South Course has already begun. The golf courses will be designed by Hanse Golf Design (West Course), Fazio & Davis Golf Design (South Course) & Kyle Phillips Golf Design (North Course). The main driving range encompasses over 50acres, has 360* of tee space, 7 acres of shortgame area & will be regarded as one of the finest practice facilities in the country. All courses will be blanketed with TifTuf turf & TifEagle greens. Rainbird IC irrigation will be utilized on all courses along with John Deere equipment. The West Course Turf Care Facility is in the final phases before completion & construction of the East Turf Care Facility will commence in the late spring of 2024. The club is also in the process of constructing 2 clubhouses, 50+ cottages, spa/fitness center & will also have fishing, tennis, walking trails & pickleball. Chosen candidates will be involved in the planning of a 35,000ft East Golf Course Maintenace facility, a 10,000ft facility along with outsourcing all new tools, lifts, grinders & other implements. Educational Requirements:

  • Strong working knowledge of turf equipment & ability to perform repairs at a high level
  • Experience with construction & grow-in bermudagrass preferred at a high-end facility
  • Possession of a valid driver's license

Experience Requirements:

  • 2+ years as an Assistant Equipment Manager working under a reputable supervisor
  • Knowledge of John Deere equipment preferred

Special Requirements:

  • Inspect, diagnose, service & repair mechanical or electric issues on all golf course maintenance equipment
  • Alongside the Director of Golf Courses & Grounds & Equipment Manager, the candidate will demonstrate preventive maintenance & the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment to all golf course staff

Irrigation Technician

The IT is a critical member of the maintenance team and overall operation of the courses. IT reports to the Director of Golf Course and Grounds Maintenance, the GCS, and the Assistant GCS. The property includes: 36 holes of golf, 2 front entrances, pro shops, driving ranges, short-term villa rentals, and the Palmetto Traverse Putting Course. While the primary responsibility is irrigation, the IT will also be involved regularly with day-to-day operations as well as taking part in, and leading, special projects. A positive attitude and willingness to think, prioritize, and work through challenges is critical.

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of electricity and hydraulics related to irrigation systems
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation
  • Ability to read, write legibly, communicate clearly and concisely both orally and written
  • Good vision (close, far, color, peripheral and depth)

  • Daily, weekly, monthly, and annual records of work performed, water in/out, precipitation received, parts ordered, inventoried and used
  • Keeping irrigation parts room neat and organized is imperative
  • Maintaining turf, trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals outdoors

Monroeton Golf Course is an 18 hole public course in Reidsville, NC. We have new bentgrass greens on the back nine and are currently rebuilding the front nine greens. We are looking for a golf course mechanic who can service and repair old tractors as well as newer golf course specific equipment. Our mechanic of over 35 years has agreed to provide on-the-job training prior to his retirement in September. Our family owns another golf course 15 minutes away in Brown Summit that is also in need of a mechanic.We look foward to hearing from you.

Experience/Requirements:

  • Mechanical experience is required
  • Tractor repair and golf course experience is preferred

Property Description:

Tidewater Golf Club boasts an 18-hole championship golf course on the beautiful coast of South Carolina.  Built in 1990, Tidewater Golf Club has maintained public play despite its location within a renowned, master planned community and both have received numerous local and national awards including Golf Course of the Year as recently as 2022.   

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Technician repairs all equipment associated with course maintenance department.  Responsibilities also include planing and implementing a preventative maintenance schedule for equipment, training staff in safe use and proper care and maintenance of assigned equipment, and advising the Superintendent regarding major equipment failures and/or replacement needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect equipment for operating deficiencies.  Repair and adjust equipment as needed.
  • Lubricate and service all course maintenance equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to properly set up reels and maintain correct angles through a combination of grinding and lapping ensuring mowing equipment maintains cut quality.
  • Maintain service, repair and usage records on all equipment.
  • Establish safety procedures and maintain safety records for equipment operation.
  • Develop working relationships with vendors, manufacturers and distributors to maintain service quality.
  • Demonstrate to staff the use of new equipment and train in safe operation and proper care and maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Plan and implement a preventative maintenance schedule for equipment.
  • Advise the Superintendent regarding major equipment failures and/or replacement needs.
  • Perform general overhauls for equipment as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school, college degree, required or preferred.
  • 1 year experience with golf course equipment repair or auto repair.
  • Valid driver’s license.  Driving record meeting Company safety policies and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to repair golf course equipment with an emphasis on quality of cut and reel geometry.
  • Demonstrated quality verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
  • Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.

Supervises:

  • No direct, daily supervision of employees exists for this position, however, occasional responsibility for supervision will be required in the absence of the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent.
  • To the extent of the position requirements, coaching and training of team members and associates will be necessary to execute department goals.
