We are seeking an experienced and organized Equipment Manager. Fawn Lake is a private club within a gated community in historic Spotsylvania, Virginia. Built in 1994, the course is an 18 hole Palmer Co. design with zoysia fairways, fescue rough, and bentgrass tees and greens. After a stellar 6 year career with us, our EM will be leaving the position later this summer. If timing permits, it’s possible that the new hire will get to work alongside the current EM.

We have a full fleet of well-maintained equipment and an equipment replacement plan in place. The equipment manager’s work space is a 35’x50’ climate controlled room with an office, equipment lift, and all the tools necessary to do the job. Virtually all equipment is stored inside in a separate space adjoining the EM’s shop. We are seeking someone who shares our high standards for how the facility should look and function. 

Candidates should have golf course experience and be passionate about the turf industry. Ideally we would like to find someone with, or in pursuit of, the CTEM designation. We will aid in the process of achieving this. 

Experience Requirements: 3 or more years as Golf Equipment Technician ; Organization and record keeping ; Ability to train and mentor staff on proper use of equipment ; Fabrication and welding ; Small motor and equipment repair; Ability to operate equipment ; Reel adjustment, grinding, and cutting unit set up ; Computer skills for sourcing supplies and record keeping ; Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession ; Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions.

The golf course equipment technician is responsible for the operation and preventive care of golf course maintenance equipment. This position reports to the golf course superintendent and/or the assistant superintendent.

Responsibilities:
• Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical defects or failures in various golf course maintenance equipment including diesel, gas, and electric powered golf course equipment
• Instruct and or train turf management staff regarding preventive maintenance, equipment usage, proper cleaning and safe operation of equipment

Stonebridge Golf Club is an 18 hole, semi-private golf club, owned and operated by Wingate University. Stonebridge is located just south of Charlotte, NC and opened in 1997. Our staff maintains 120 acres of turf, with bentgrass greens and 419 fairways, tees and rough. The Maintenance Facility has a 1200 sqft Technician’s bay with lift, parts room, private office, and grinding room equipped with Bernhard, reel and knife grinders. Overview:
The equipment manager reports to the golf course superintendent and/or the assistant golf course superintendent and oversees a comprehensive equipment maintenance program. This program includes the preventative maintenance and repair of all turf equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The equipment manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the superintendent and/or the assistant superintendent. The equipment manager places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.

Functions:
• Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment, including, diesel-, electric-, and gasoline-powered equipment.
• Responsible for the grinding/sharpening and setup of reel and rotary mowers of all sizes and manufacturers.
• Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work. Maintains a preventive maintenance program on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies.
• Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use.
• Instructs and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment.
• Oversees the shop area maintenance.
• Regulates employees' use of equipment in absence of superintendent and assistant superintendent, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the superintendent.

Employment Standards:
• Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of light and heavy duty maintenance, mowing, and automotive apparatuses, internal combustion engines and hydraulic and electrical systems and motors.
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical troubles, and determine appropriate maintenance work.
• Skilled in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making various types of mechanical repair.
• Knowledge of the game of golf and the understanding of how job performance affects playing conditions of the golf course.
• Willingness to work in the field, in a variety of weather conditions, while repairing equipment or assisting in any other area of golf course maintenance
