The Cliffs at Glassy is a premier private club that was built in 1991 by designer Tom Jackson and lays beautifully on top of a 3000 ft. mountain with breath taking views on 15 of 18 holes. Golf Digest ranked it the 3rd most scenic course in the country. The course consist of bentgrass greens, tees and fairways with a blend of Kentucky blue grass/turf type tall fescue rough. Should a candidate desire cool season experience in the transition zone this would be an idea course selection. The crew consist of 25-30 members annually. The Cliffs at Glassy will make a great learning experience for an intern to achieve new skills and prepare them for entering the golf course management industry. Upon consideration please know, The Cliffs at Glassy is one of seven Cliffs Clubs located throughout the mountain and lake regions of upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina and often promotes interns and other positions within these clubs.

Educational Requirements:

Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a 2 or 4 year turfgrass university.
Experience Requirements:
Prior experience helpful but not required.

Special Requirements:

The intern’s responsibility will include all facets of golf course management including but not limited to fertilizer and pesticide applications as well as calibrations, extensive hand watering w/ extensive water management skills, irrigation system management and repair, management of crew members, assistance in finical budgeting and all other daily practices not mentioned. A candidate must have a good attitude, strong work ethic, be attentive to detail, eager to learn, organizational skills, etc. Perspective intern should have the ultimate goal of becoming a golf course superintendent and must keep in mind that this is a learning experience to grow closer in achieving that goal. Any intern graduating from school soon after internship completion will have an immediate opportunity for a fulltime managerial position. Hound Ears Club is a private 18 hole facility, with 12,000 annual rounds.  Greens and tees are bentgrass, fairways are bentgrass and bluegrass.  

With a short growing season and lots of play, we pride ourselves on working together as a team in the most efficient way possible while upholding flawless course conditions for our members on a daily basis.

A strong work ethic and willingness to learn will be a necessity for this position. Governors Club is a private open year round 27 hole course with 35,000 annual rounds. Governors Club is a golfing community nestled in the rolling terrain of Chapel Hill. The community’s championship golf course is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Design established in 1990. The course runs through and around Edwards Mountain. AT 600-feet above sea level, Edwards Mountain is the highest point in the triangle. Governors Club offers a variety of golfing experiences with three distinct nines appropriately named: the Lakes Course, the Foothills Course and the Mountain Course. It has recently served as host for the 2016 NC Men’s State Amateur Championship, US Open Qualifying (men 2014 and women 2015), the Twin States Junior Girls Championship, the CGA Tarheel Cup and the CGA Carolinas Senior 4-Ball Championship. The event of this season will include the US Women’s Open Qualifier. 
Governors Club has 31 Champion bermudagrass putting greens, Tifway 419 bermudagrass fairways and rough, and zoysiagrass bunker faces.
We are seeking highly motivated, team oriented individuals for this seasons Turfgrass Internships. Students will participate in a diverse range of activities involved in daily golf course maintenance.
• General golf course maintenance including mowing, trimming, water management, etc.

Three Golf Course Maintenance Interns, Yeamans Hall Club, Charleston, SC

Yeamans Hall Club is a Private, Open Year Round, Golf Course with 18 holes and 14,000 annual rounds played.  Greens are Champion Bermuda, Tees are 419, and Fairways are 419/Common. Yeamans Hall Club is a 1925 Seth Raynor design ranked number 2 in the state of South Carolina by Golf Digest and 87th in the U.S. This past summer, we installed a brand new irrigation system and in the summer of 2017, we will be renovation our pushup greens to USGA specifications. We will also be converting all of our fairways to Celebration bermudagrass and adding several bunkers and tees to the course. 

The intern will work closely with the Superintendent team in all facets of golf course maintenance and golf course renovation scheduled for May of 2017. Interns will be heavily involved in planning and executing all parts of renovation and grow in. Intern will learn proper calibration and application techniques for chemicals/fertilizers as well as watering techniques for grow in. Will work closely with construction company during renovation to learn proper construction methods for USGA spec. putting greens.

New Construction. Congaree Club is an exclusive 18 hole Tom Fazio Design golf course located 30 miles from Hilton Head in Ridgeland, SC on a 2,000 acre private plantation. Construction began winter of 2015 and will continue through summer of 2016 with opening day anticipated spring of 2017. Course will have Champion Greens, Tifgrand Tees and Fairways.  

The appropriate candidate must have a strong work ethic, the willingness to learn, and the drive to excel. The ability to work long hours and in variable weather conditions will be required as well. As part of Wildcat Cliffs you will help to maintain the course in tournament conditions on a daily basis. Extensive internship will include cool season grass maintenance along with a high end croquet court. Agronomic practices, cultural practices and staffing will be on going topics for discussion. All assigned responsibilities/tasks will be based upon your experience-level to provide you with an opportunity to get the most out of your internship. 

Intern responsibilities are to include fertilizer/chemical applications, water management, irrigation system maintenance, annual and perennial landscape maintenance, equipment operation, and small project management. 

Interns will be mentored on all aspects of golf course maintenance to include use of numerous growth regulators, various wetting agent types, moisture meters, and biological pest controls.

Etowah Valley Golf & Resort is currently seeking qualified interns for the 2016 season. Applicants should be enrolled or about to be enrolled in a turf-grass program. Recent graduates are also welcome to apply. The ideal candidates will have a desire to learn, be highly motivated and should be a team players. 

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience managing both warm and cool season grasses in the transition zone. Interns will also gain experience managing both sand based and native soil (push-up) greens. Interns will be involved in all facets of our program including: planning, application of pesticides and fertilizer, irrigation repair, proper watering techniques, scouting, crew management, special projects and daily maintenance. Advancement within the company is possible for the right candidates. 

Etowah Valley Golf & Resort is a 27 hole semiprivate club located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. The original 18 holes, designed by Edmund B. Ault was constructed in the mid 1960’s, an additional 9 was added in the mid 1980’s. Charlotte Country Club is a private, open year round,  18 hole facility dating back to 1910. An original Donald Ross design restored in 2007-2008, located 4 miles east of uptown Charlotte. Greens are A1/A4 Bentgrass tees and fairways are 419 Bermudagrass. We recently completed construction of a new Agronomy Center which includes an Intern Dorm. Our Internship program offers students hands on experience in every facet of golf course management ranging from equipment operation, application of fertilizers and pesticides, and daily golf course set up. 

Interns will work alongside the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendents on a daily basis. In addition to experience gained on the course, our Golf Course Superintendent provides bi-weekly educational meetings covering topics such as professionalism, marketability, calibration, nutrition requirements and timing, soil testing, irrigation, budgeting, and compound and fertilizer programs. 

On-site housing is provided in our new Intern Dorm. Other benefits include uniforms, employee meals, and golf privileges.

Interns must be pursuing a degree in Agronomy or Turfgrass Management. A minimum of 2 years’ experience is preferred. Individuals must possess a high level of dedication, be very detail oriented, enthusiastic, and devoted to a career in the golf course industry.
