Since opening in 1992 The Old North State Club has been one of the premier courses in the state. We have successfully hosted the Men’s ACC Championship for the last 24 years and will do so again this year. Additionally, I will also be filling my 2nd assistant position this fall/winter of 2020. We are searching for an individual who is eager to learn and to contribute. Interns can be expected to work 40-45 hours per week and be involved in all aspects of the day to day operation of running a golf course.

As part of Wildcat Cliffs Country Club, you will help to maintain the course in tournament conditions on a daily basis. Extensive internship will include cool season grass maintenance along with a high-end croquet lawns. Agronomic practices, cultural practices, and scheduling will be on going topics of discussion for interns. All assigned responsibilities/tasks will be based upon experience-levels to provide interns with an opportunity to get the most out of their internship. 

Intern responsibilities are to include fertilizer/chemical applications, water management, irrigation system maintenance, annual and perennial landscape maintenance, equipment operation, and small project management.

Interns will be mentored on all aspects of golf course maintenance to include use of numerous growth regulators, various wetting agent types, moisture meters, and biological pest controls.

Wildcat Cliffs Country Club (www.wildcatcliffscountryclub.com) is a private club located on the Eastern Continental Divide in the Western North Carolina Mountains between Highlands and Cashiers. The 18-hole course was designed by George Cobb (1961) and updated by Bill Bergin (2007). Wildcat Cliffs is open 6 months of the year (May- October) growing cool season grasses above 4,100 ft elevation.

Myers Park is committed to providing an internship opportunity that will prepare turfgrass students for a career in golf course turf management. Students will expand upon knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and apply them in a work setting. The intern experience will include but won't be limited to education and involvement the following areas of focus:

-Calibrating, scheduling, and applying chemicals and fertilizers
-Leading small projects
-Irrigation auditing, troubleshooting and repair
-Learning every aspect of daily golf course set up and scheduling


Myers Park Country Club is a private club established in 1921; nestled in the desirable Myers Park neighborhood just 3 miles south of Uptown Charlotte. The Club prides itself on offering excellent facilities and services. Myers Park has just completed a series of major capital improvements which included a 2.2 million dollar golf course renovation. Golf Course Architect, Richard Mandell, assisted the Club with a complete redesign of the bunkers using the Better Billy Bunker construction method. The greens were converted to TifEagle bermudagrass. Other work finished was a redesign of two greens on the course, as well as a complete renovation of our practice range and 18th hole.

Summer Intern, Wade Hampton Golf Club, Cashiers, NC

Located in the mountains of Western North Carolina, Wade Hampton Golf Club is currently ranked 25th by Golf Digest. In July 2017 Wade Hampton GC embarked on a full golf course renovation, which consisted of rebuilding greens, re-grassing approaches and tees, decontaminating the primary rough and reseeding, new cart path installation, and other course playability improvements. Wade Hampton Golf Club now consists of Pure Distinction greens and approaches, Crystal Blue teeing grounds, Tall Fescue/Kentucky Bluegrass primary rough, and a blended fine fescue secondary rough. Since finalizing the course renovation, Wade Hampton GC continues to improve course playability, course aesthetics, and turf management practices. 

Students will work closely with the Turf Management Team through their internship focusing on daily course management, chemical/fertilizer applications, irrigation troubleshooting/repair, proper water management, crew leadership, and daily scheduling of crew. Interns will be expected to bring a positive attitude and initiative to the work environment daily. Each day should be viewed as an opportunity to make yourself better and grow in this industry.
